Royal Canin, Profine and Carnilove cat food reviews👀
Many have asked what and which brand of cat food Tinkerbell is having. So far she have had 3 different brands and they are all claiming for the same reason, which is for healthier coat and skin.
Just recently have we decided to stick to the winner brand.
This is the brand that is actually made her dandruff gone!
The reason behind switching brands was because Tinkerbell's dandruff problem and itchiness on her tail. The problem occurs gradually. As her fur getting longer and thicker as she grew older the worse it became.
Apparently, it is a very common problem among long hair cat. This is due to the difficulties to to clean the area.We gave medicated shampoo a try but nothing change. Not even trimming her fur shorter helps (but it does cooling during summer time).
For almost four years have Tinkerbell been having Royal Canin dry cat food.
Since the first day we have her, we gave her Royal Canin Kitten dry food.
She love it. It was small and easy for a tiny kitty to chew. Besides, it gives the nutrients she needs to grow up without a mother.
From age 1 to almost 4 years old, she has been having Royal Canin Hair and Skin Care. She love this food.
This is the food that make her fur soft, silky and shiny. With this food, she had vomit her hairball twice up to the last day before we switched to new brand. I believe that this food helps to manage hairballs problem. Her feces on the other hand, does not smells bad. At all! Which is a big plus. No stinking home!😹
10kg bag last her a good 6 months! Which mean, she gets the energy and nutrients that she need.
The problem is, dandruff.
Finally 5 months before she turn 4 years old, we decided to try another premium brand to help her to combat the problem.
We bought Profine cat food.
We were told it is one of the premium cat food out there.
Just incase she will not like the food, we bought a 1.5 kg bag of Profine Derma Salmon and Rice and to see if it makes any different to her skin.
Profine Derma Salmon and Rice is specially made for long and semi long-haired cat. It is claimed to have complete nutrients for their skin and fur.
Long story short, halfway through the bag, she vomited her first hairball. The biggest one so far! She vomitted the second one right before she finishes her Profine Derma Salmon and Rice. We did not take this as a red flag considering that it is normal for a cat to vomit out hairball(s).
It took her almost 2 &a half months to finish the entire bag of food.
Her dandruff problem? Getting worse! It even spread through half of her tail and quarter of her lower back. We can literally see the dandruff flakes on her tail and back and even her pillow!
We knew she had major itchiness because she does scratch alot. Her fur losses its smoothness, silkyness and shines.
With this result, we decided to change and start doing our own online research.
So we typed in, "What not to have ingredient(s) in cat food ".
We came across alot of articles mentioning to : "avoid grains and gluten in cat food" besides many other ingredients.
We did searched for recommended brand online. But they are not available in Sweden. The only way is to buy them online and to be ship to Sweden. It is not an option for us after considering the cost for shipment itself.
So we went to local pet store to find the best one base on the "avoid" list.
We looked for the one with less fancy ingredients, less ingredients, ingredients which has no fancy names, avoid anything with preservative, has higher protein (at least 40%), too much carbs as a filler, and most important of all is to avoid grains and gluten, avoid meat by-products, BHT,BHA & Ethoxyquin. The best choice is to get a meal that mimic to what cat eat in the wild (no not only FISH! Cats eat meat!)
So we grabbed the best one we can get locally without straining our bank account.
Carnilove is the choice we made.
Although it does contains tapioca starch, but Carnilove has far less overall ingredients and most natural ingredients among other brands (in pet store). In order to avoid 100% starch, we have to feed Tinkerbell mainly on canned cat food. So we have no other choice. It contains only 2% of tapioca starch afterall.
We start with2 bags of 400g in which each bag provide different needs and nutrients.
One is for hairball control and the other is for sensitive and long hair cat. We combined the food in her food container.
800g of this brand has made such a different in Tinkerbell skin and fur. We realise that her itchiness has slowly subsides.
We continue with Carnilove and purchased the same bags but of 2kgs. 2 months has past, we noticed her fur gets fluffier, smoother and shinier!
Dandruff? Entirely gone!
Now we have bought another 2kgx2 bags and ready to fill her food container once it is empty!
If you are in Sweden, you can get this at any Arken Zoo and Grizzlyzoo pet stores. It costs 289 sek for 2kg.
Max weight bag is 6kg, 499 sek.

ReplyDeleteHi, I have 2 cats and a dog. It's a really informative post. Thanks. cat food
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly the problem with cat food. One can Google hundreds of reviews that rate them, but personal experiences and our own cats first-hand reactions to specific cat food is first. I know several people that recommend RC to every single person they meet based on their personal experience (fair enough), but each and every cat is different. I have a FIV+ cat who is doing great on Hills despite the grain content, and I'm not changing it just because the are other grain-free options out there.
