Are you new in Sweden? Are you planning to move to Sweden? Are you waiting for your permit to move to Sweden? Either one of it, i hope the information that i will share with you able to give you a slight idea on what to expect.
I will start with chronological order..
Before
Learn Swedish language!!
In Sweden, there are many taxi and bus drivers are having degree or master in any professional field than any other country in the world.
When it comes to get a job in Sweden, they do prefer those who are fluent in Swedish both writing and speaking. If you think you can speak french, german, English, japaneser, or any other language in the world, if you don't speak Swedish then your chance to get a job is super thin. So learn your Swedish before you even step to this country. Atleast, that will speed up your process once you step in to the country.
unless you do not need to work to support your living. You know what i mean
By the way, learning the language ahead of time give you an opportunity to differentiate and most of all understand when you start to meet swedes from Skåne. For me they sound like a danish speaking Swedish.
Start looking for connection/network
There is job bank that you can register to if you are looking for job. But it does not give you much help ( you will hear about it alot once you are finally here ). If you have wider network or connections, it gives you better chance than the job bank.
Culture differences
Expect alot of Fika! Swedish are all about having fika. Coffee with dammsugare.
Their favorit conversation opening is something about weather. They are obsess with weather!
Snus! You will find alot of tiny "beanbag" alike on the floor.
In busses and train, expect the swedes to have 2 seats on their on because their handbags deserve a seat! Don't be shy to ask them to move it for you bump instead. I did it all the time. They are cool about it.
Financially prepare
Things are expensive in Sweden.
You might not get job even after 5 years living here.
Here
Enroll yourself in SFI in the kommun you are living in. It might takes sometime to get into the queue to start.
Check on your kommun homepage, most kommun have språk kafé. It is a meeting where some volunteer will help you to improve your Swedish. Don't be shy to go. You will get a change to meet new friends.
If you are into beauty, just so you know, There are not much beauty product you can find in Sweden. But don't worry, you might be able to get what you are looking for online.
Beware of dog shit!
It is beautiful here in Sweden during summer. I do love it.
finally, just deal with everything and don't give up. It can be extremely tough living here.. you will understand what i mean once you are. But remember to tell yourself not to give up.
